A Nigerian woman, Omotolani, suffered the misfortune of losing her beloved mother just a week before her wedding, but decided to go on with the arrangements.
Reports indicated that all arrangements had been made concerning the wedding when the mother of the bride took ill and passed away.
Despite their grief, the two families decided to go ahead.
The day, however, was marred by deep emotions. The bride, at a point in the ceremony, almost could not go on when she was overtaken by emotions.
The family of the bride had earlier decided not to let anyone stand in Omotolani’s mother’s place. Instead, a portrait of the late mother was put on a table during the ceremony to represent her.
The bride, who had tried to be brave in the beginning, could not take it again when she saw a portrait of her late mother.
She collapsed to the ground, and her father, her friends and family members rushed to her side to plead with her to continue.
The distraught bride later stood up and continued with the rest of the traditional wedding.
Comments have been pouring in since the video was shared by the event planner of the wedding, @d.reelmaker, on TikTok.
Some commended Omotolani’s bravery for agreeing to go ahead with the wedding despite the tragic loss of her mother.
Many opined that the wedding should have been postponed because of the tragedy.
Others claimed this was frowned upon in many cultures in Yorubaland. They opined that if the marriage was postponed after the date had been widely publicised, the lady might never get married again.

I understand everyone saying ‘Why can’t she postpone the wedding 😩😩😩’ In Yoruba land, you can’t postpone it although her mother that died is not anyone wish but if she postpone the wedding, enemies might not let her be able to pick another day for her wedding so it is Tradition in Yoruba Land”.
May the soul of the departed mother rest in peace.
