
The Nigerian Army has announced that an explosion rocked its storage building at Ilese Barracks, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Thursday, August 14, 2025.
According to the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Appolonia Anele, the minor explosion led to a fire outbreak, which was successfully combated.
Anele said only the affected building and some materials in the storage were damaged.
The affected building was used for storing sensitive materials for the 42nd Engineers Brigade Counter-Improvised Explosive Device Squadron.
She said a prompt action by men of the 12 Field Engineer Regiment and professional firefighters from the Ijebu-Ode Fire Service helped to control the situation.
Anele said there were no casualties or injuries. She said a detailed assessment was being carried out to determine the full extent of material loss.
She called on the residents of the community to maintain their calm. The Army PRO also disclosed that the incident was being probed to determine its cause and prevent a recurrence.
