A student of Dentistry at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Ajibola Ibitayo, has allegedly taken his own life over abysmal academic performance.
The sad news was broken by the President of the Dentistry Students’ Association, Adebayo Idris, in a statement he issued yesterday, August 13, 2025.
The incident reportedly happened after the examination results of the department were released on August 12.
Idris said the passing of Ibitayo was a painful reminder of the silent battles that many students of the department face.
He said the association was devastated by the development and extended its condolences to his loved ones, classmates, and others.
Idris urged students to support one another and ask for professional help when necessary.
He added that mental health was just as important as physical health. The association president said no one should be left alone in their struggles.
