Mr. Felix Ukpo, the father of the young man who implicated the former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, in an organ trafficking case, has died.

Mr. Ukpo reportedly died heartbroken in his house in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, on Sunday, August 10, 2025.

His son, Boniface, made the announcement on Monday, August 11, 2025, saying that his father died in sorrow.

It would be recalled that 21-year-old David Nwamini, who was taken to the United Kingdom (UK) to donate a kidney to their daughter, denied being told the exact reason he was taken to the UK.

It became a major issue, and formal charges were laid against Mr Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice, and a medical doctor, Obinna Obeta.

All three people were tried and convicted of trafficking David Nwamini in March 2023 by the Old Bailey Court in London.

Not much has been heard of David or his family until Boniface’s announcement on Monday.

He said his father had never enjoyed good health since the incident, and they lost touch with David.

Boniface said his father finally breathed his last about 12 noon on Sunday.

Mr Ekweremadu is still in prison serving out his nine-year and eight months prison term.

His wife bagged four years and six months in prison, while Dr Obeta got 10 years.

Senator Ekweremadu’s wife returned to Nigeria in January 2025, a few months before the completion of her term. It is believed she got a form of pardon for her to leave the prison before the full expiration of her term.
