
The police in Abuja have smashed a gang of one-chance robbers in Abuja, killing one and arresting six suspects.
A vehicle being used for the crime has also been impounded, while a victim was successfully rescued.
FCT Police Command’s Image maker, CSP Josephine Adeh, announced the development in a press release.
She said a police team on patrol on Wednesday, August 6, at 8.30 a.m., witnessed a woman, later identified as Angel Patrick, being pushed out of a moving vehicle along the Kubwa Expressway.
According to her, a team rescued the victim and rushed her to Zankwochi Hospital, Mabushi, for treatment.
The second team went after the culprits and chased them to the Aso area of Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
The police reportedly cornered the suspects and exchanged gunfire with them before apprehending Daniel Benson, Emmanuel Akor, Uche Thomas, and Tope Ola, all males from Mpape. They are alleged to have been on the wanted list of the police for some time..
The police team also arrested Jude Simon of Mararaba and impounded their dark grey Toyota Corolla, which they used for their operation.
The police spokesperson said one suspect was shot during the exchange of gunfire. He was reportedly confirmed dead at the Asokoro General Hospital.
The police later discovered that John Simon had been arrested in December 2024. He was arraigned and remanded in Kuje Correctional Centre for the same offence of one-chance robbery.
Apart from the car, the investigating team recovered six ATM cards suspected to belong to previous victims, one jackknife, the sum of N115,000, and some personal effects suspected to belong to previous victims.
Adeh said the suspects admitted that they had been doing the criminal business of one-chance for many years now.
