The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has told West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) candidates and their parents that the earlier released results were inaccurate because of a technical glitch in the system.
The results portal has now been shut as the council battles to correct the anomaly noticed.
The council today, August 7, 2025, issued a formal apology to the candidates who sat for the exam, their parents and the general public.
The examination body said its team discovered technical issues with a tendency to compromise the integrity of the released results of WASSCE, for School Candidates (SC) 2025.
WAEC’s Ag. Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, said the council had taken some measures to combat examination malpractice.
Part of the measures included a new innovation known as paper serialisation, which had already been tested by another national examination body.
WAEC said this innovation was utilised for key subjects such as English Language, Mathematics, Economics and Biology.
After the results were released this Monday, the council conducted an internal review, through which it found that unexpected technical bugs impacted the accuracy of the scores.
WAEC said this has necessitated its announcement that access to the results would be halted to enable it to rectify the technical glitches.
The council said it was committed to fairness and professionalism, and promised to resolve the issues expeditiously and with transparency in the next 24 hours.
The exam body apologised for the development and expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to stakeholders.
WAEC called on those who had checked their results to recheck when the glitches have been fixed in 24 hours.
The council said it remained steadfast in its mission to uphold fairness, excellence, and transparency in all the examinations it conducts.
