Prince Harry dumps his African youth charity

The Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry, has formally walked away from his African youth Charity, Sentebale, following a boardroom crisis.

Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho co-founded Sentebale to assist orphans with aids in Lesotho in memory of his late mother, Princess Diana.

The Duke of Sussex has carried the charity on his shoulder, holding high-profile polo matches to raise millions of pounds for it.

However, the charity has faced internal squabbling of late, with its chair, Dr Sophie Chandauka, accusing Prince Harry and other trustees of misogyny and misogynoir. (Misogyny is prejudice against women, while misogynoir is prejudice against black women).

A British Charity Commission, which investigated the allegations, reported that it could not find any evidence to establish the allegations, including harassment and bullying.

The crisis first emerged in March, with Harry announcing that he was stepping back as the patron of the charity to allow a thorough investigation into the allegations raised against him and others on the trustees.

He expressed that the probe would establish the truth so that the Sentebale would be ‘put in the right hands’.

On Tuesday night, August 5, 2025, the Prince of Duke made it clear he had moved on from the charity and would find new ways to support the children of Lesotho and Botswana.

His spokesperson said it was no surprise that the probe found no evidence of wrongdoing, bullying or racism against the Prince.

He criticised the Charity Commission, saying its report fell short of expectations in many regards.

In her own statement, Dr Chandauka accused the Prince of launching an adverse media campaign against him after she privately complained about the charity’s governance to the Commission in February.

She said the media campaign against her provides a glimpse into the harassment she was facing privately from the prince.

Dr Chandauka called the Prince and his wife a ‘toxic brand’. She also remarked that the Prince’s decision to quit royal duties had adversely affected his ability to attract funding for Sentebale.

She criticised the royal couple for turning up at a fundraising polo match in April 2024, with a Netflix camera crew in tow.

It would be recalled that the incident blew up in the media with many openly lambasting the duchess for apparently turning the event into personal glorification.

Dr. Chandauka alleged that Prince Harry subsequently directed her to issue a statement to defend his wife.

She claimed that she declined and made the point that there should be a distinction between Sentebale and the Sussexes.

Her response, she claimed, attracted an unpleasant text message from the prince, further driving a wedge between them.
