Ghanaian police operatives have rounded up five Nigerian women, who are suspected to be sex workers.
They arrested the women during an operation aimed at reducing crime within the Asokwa Municipality of Ghana.
It was gathered that the raid followed a tip-off from members of the public about the activities of the women in some known ghettos.
The Asokwa District Police said they took the action as a pre-emptive measure to tackle criminals before they plan an operation.
The police said 12 people were arrested in total. They included five sex workers and seven males picked up at different locations.
The five women reportedly dissociated from any criminal activity. They admitted only to prostituting themselves.
The women were identified as Loveth Michael, 18, Empress David, 22, Loveth Michael, 18, Loveth Michael, 18, Success Moses, Sonia Isaac, 24, 21 and Victor Alice, 23.
