Lady regrets leaving N500k job to relocate to UK

Complains about lack of jobs outside care industry

Despair kicking in for this Nigerian lady after failing to land a job in UK
Despair is kicking in for this Nigerian lady after failing to land a job in the UK.

A Nigerian lady has taken to social media to express regret for leaving a job in Nigeria where she was paid N500,000 per month, to relocate to the United Kingdom.

The lady says her expectations upon relocation had been dashed, as she has not been able to secure a decent job.

Using a TikTok handle @growithkashrox, the immigrant said she quit her job when she saw the beautiful pictures of life abroad being painted on social media by those who left Nigeria.

She said she also desired the soft life she saw them living and was convinced that she would also have a better life if she relocated.

The TikToker disclosed that she was not rich in Nigeria but was comfortable. According to her, she had an apartment of her own, was without debts, and was able to financially assist her loved ones.

But she applied for a study visa in the UK and relocated only to find life harder than she had it in Nigeria.

To her shock, none of the employers would give her a job without UK experience. She said only care jobs are available, and she cannot do them.

The TikToker said all the referrals she has had so far are for care jobs.

“That’s the only thing people send me: care work, support workers, domiciliary care. Every single link is about personal care. And honestly, I can’t do it,” she lamented.

She explained that it was not because she was proud, but because she would break down mentally and emotionally if she accepted those jobs.

The frustrated lady said she had applied to over 100 non-care roles, such as customer service, office clerk or administrative assistant, and retail.

The employers either ignored her or told her she did not have UK experience.

The lady lamented that her savings are virtually gone, driving her to despair. She said she sometimes cried in the corner of her room.

The Nigerian lady said she was considering relocating back to Nigeria to start all over again.

Her story has generated massive reactions, with many advising her to do what she deemed best for her.

Some, however, criticised her for having an unrealistic view of the UK, pointing out that most immigrants who succeeded did not start out being choosy about the type of jobs they could do.
