A school security guard, David Moses, has expressed regret for taking the lives of a nurse, Mrs. Chinyere Anaene and a toddler, Nanenther Asher Yese, in the school in his quest to make money.

The incident happened at Clear Hope Foundation Academy, Dawaki, Abuja on 23 July 2025.

Moses allegedly connived with his friend, Sunday Irimiya, to lure Mrs. Anaene out of a classroom to the toilet.

He told the woman there was something he wanted her to check out. She believed him and followed him to the toilet, where Irimiya was hiding.

Irimiya reportedly took the woman by surprise, strangled her to death and hid her body.

Moses told newsmen during a parade that Irimiya asked him to bring one of the kids in the school to be killed.

He claimed he told him the nurse was enough. He, however, said that Irimiya replied that the ransom would not be enough if it was only the nurse.

The security guard said he then went to pick up Nanenther, who was also killed by Irimiya.

Moses said that with the two killed, they used the nurse’s phone to demand for N250 million ransom from the victim’s families.

After negotiation, they settled for N3 million, which the families paid.

The security guard said he and Irimiya, however, fell out at the point of sharing their loot.

The disagreement degenerated into fisticuffs during which Irimiya allegedly stabbed Moses.

The security guard said he sought help from the neighbourhood, telling them to call the police.

When the police arrived, they took him to the hospital, where his life was saved.

The suspect said he later told the police everything that happened before he was stabbed by his accomplice.

He claimed he had never killed anyone before the incident. The suspect also said the late nurse was kind to him.

The police account of events is slightly different from the narration Moses gave. The Commissioner of Police, Ajao Adewale, said his team swung into action after they were told the victims were missing on July 23, 2025.

He said that while his team was working on the case, they were told that the nurse’s phone number had been used to demand ransom.

The CP his team’s investigation led them to Moses, who then admitted to plotting the crime with Irimiya.

He said his team was still searching for Irimiya.
