Graduating Babcock University student dies in hostel

A graduating student of Babcock University, Ilisan Remo, Akawa Boluwatife Samuel has been found dead in one of the institution’s hotel rooms.

The 20-year-old Samuel just completed his course in the Information Technology department of Babcock University.

Security analyst, Zagazola Makama, reported that the deceased was rushed to the Babcock University Teaching Hospital by his roommates on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, after they noticed he was unresponsive.

The doctor on duty reportedly examined him and announced that it was too late, as he was gone.

Investigations conducted by police detectives revealed that the deceased had complained of being unwell the previous day.

His roommate, identified as Adili Leonard Chimdindu, told investigators that Samuel told them he was feeling cold and experiencing difficulty in breathing on July 27.

He said they told the deceased to visit the University Medical Centre.

Samuel visited the school to complete his clearance to enable him to graduate.

He was to return home after the completion of the process.

His colleagues said he was full of life the previous night, playing games on his laptop till close to midnight.

The next morning, he did not climb out of bed, prompting his roommates to call out to him.

Further probe revealed that he was lifeless.

Police have contacted his family, and his elder brother, Akawa Toluwanimi John, wrote a statement to assist the police with their investigation.

Akawa’s remains have been deposited at the university morgue, where an autopsy is expected to be carried out.
