A Lagos-based hairdresser, identified as Fatima, is currently hospitalised after her lover knocked out six of her teeth.
According to reports, Fatima, 27, lives with her lover on Ibadan Street in Ebutte Meta, Lagos.
The couple reportedly have altercations fairly regularly, with some of them becoming violent.
On July 12, the couple had one of their usual altercations, but it rapidly escalated as the man punched six teeth out of Fatima, sending her to the hospital.
A cousin of the victim reported the matter to the police.
The man was picked up and detained by the police for the assault. He was later released by the police.
Fatima’s family member told The Punch that a neighbour called and told them that Fatima was hospitalised.
He said they did not know the nature of her sickness until the family sent a representative to the hospital and they realised it was domestic abuse.
The family source said they were depressed to see the pictures of the condition of their daughter.
It was gathered that Fatima had been begging her family to forgive her boyfriend.
The family source said they had intervened on a few other occasions in the past when the same person assaulted Fatima, but she ended up pleading with them to leave him.
Fatima is currently scheduled for a medical procedure but has been fitted with temporary dental support, commonly referred to as a “teeth iron gag,” before then.
The operation is reportedly slated for August 15.
