Police

There has been a quadruple stabbing claiming two lives and leaving one person fighting for his life in London, United Kingdom.

The cause of the tragic event is not yet known. Neither is it certain as yet if the attack was random or targeted.

The incident happened on Long Lane, Southwark, south London, about noon on Monday.

Emergency services attended the scene and confirmed one person dead, while the second person died on his way to the hospital.

The site of the tragic incident is not far from the famous London Bridge and Tower Bridge, which attract tourists daily.

The deceased victim was identified as a 58-year-old man, while the second fatality was recorded as a 27-year-old man.

A suspect, said to be in his 30s, has been held by the police. He was severely injured in the incident, ostensibly from a counterattack. He is fighting for his life in the hospital.

The fourth person injured in the attack is said to be responding to treatment.

Locals expressed shock at the stabbing, with many already talking about relocating from the area.

A nearby nursery school sent out panic emails to parents, warning them of the incident and advising them the road would be cordoned off.

A woman told MailOnline that it was depressing to hear of such an incident in an area where she is raising a child.

She said the development was forcing her to reconsider “living somewhere like this now that we have a family”.

Southwark Council’s cabinet member for community safety and neighbourhoods, Natasha Ennin, expressed her sadness at the development.

She sent condolences to the families and friends of the victims. She also called on the public to support the authorities with useful information.

Detective Chief Superintendent Emma Bond of the Met said investigations were ongoing to unravel what transpired.

She said there was yet no evidence to suggest it was terrorism-related.
