The United States Mission in Nigeria has said that anyone planning to give birth in the US will henceforth be denied a visa.
The mission sounded the note of warning on its official X handle on Monday.
The embassy said it was out to stop what it called ‘birth tourism’, which refers to the practice of pregnant women going to America to deliver their babies so they can have American citizenship.
The mission said that going forward, consular officers will deny visa applications if they have any reason to suspect that the applicant’s primary purpose of travel is to give birth in the United States.
The tweet said the practice is no longer permitted.
This is the latest in a list of measures taken by the US under Donald Trump to check the influx of foreigners into the country.
