The police in Kogi State have arrested a man, Yayu Musa, for allegedly murdering a 50-year-old woman, Atayi Abdul, for not allowing him to marry her daughter.

The incident happened in Olla Community of Omala Local Government Area on Friday, July 25, at about 8:00 p.m.

The suspect reportedly lured the unsuspecting woman into the bush, telling her thieves were stealing her palm fruits.

Once on the farm alone with the woman, Musa severely attacked her and dismembered her body, using a knife.

Some people later caught wind of the incident and alerted the police, who visited the scene with cameras.

Musa was arrested at his home. He is currently with the police.

Sources said he told the police he was motivated to commit the crime after the woman turned down his request to marry her daughter.

Efforts by the police to evacuate the body for an autopsy were resisted by the family of the deceased.

They insisted they wanted to bury the deceased immediately in accordance with religious and cultural practices.

Kogi Police Command has moved men into the community to prevent a possible breakdown of law and order due to rising tension.
