An artisan, identified simply as Timehin, 26, has died while joining a cult in a bush at Awoyaya, Eti-Osa Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened on July 18, at a bush near branch of the United Bank of Africa (UBA) at Awoyaya.
Timehin had told his family he was going to visit a friend, but went to an initiation ceremony of a cult.
According to the victim’s relative who spoke to the Punch, Timehim was trying to join the cult but a rival group sprang a surprise on them.
The rival group reportedly opened fire on the party, with many of the cultists scampering to safety.
Timehin was not able to escape and was shot dead at the scene.
Family members were worried he did not return from his friend’s place and spread information about him to neighbours.
They were soon informed of a dead body discovered in a nearby bush. It turned out to be Timehin.
Family members rushed him to a hospital hoping he could still be revived, but they were told by doctors that he was dead.
Bullet wounds were found on his neck and hand.
The police are yet to officially comment on the incident. Efforts to reach the state command’s spokesperson, Ben Hundeyin proved abortive.
