A recklessly driven vehicle has hit and killed a man identified as Jide Oyeleke on Ewusi Road, Sagamu Local Government Area of Ogun State.
Oyeleke was said to be waiting by the roadside in front of a barber shop on Sunday, about 9 p.m., when the hit-and-run motorist drove his Toyota Camry salon car at top speed and rammed into him.
According to The Punch, the victim died on the spot, while the driver of the vehicle absconded.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ogun State Traffic Compliance Agency, Tunde Akinbiyi, told the publication that the environment became charged and tense after the tragic incident.
Akinbiyi said many youths poured into the streets, threatening to disrupt public peace unless something was done to prevent tragic incidents on Ewusi Road, Shagamu.
They alleged that online conmen, locally known as Yahoo boys, were fond of speeding excessively on the road, endangering the lives of residents.
The area between Bright Fashion Junction and Royal Chemist along Ewusi Road, where Oyeleke was killed, is said to be notorious for reckless driving.
They accused the hit-and-run driver of recklessness and overspeeding. They called for the immediate installation of speed breakers on the road.
Akinbiyi disclosed that the body of the late Oyeleke had been deposited at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Morgue in Ago-Iwoye.
The Toyota Camry driven by the runaway driver had been evacuated to the police division in the area, according to Akinbiyi.
