The police in Ondo have confirmed that some assailants force-fed the Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo city, Mr. Adeniran Ezekiel Imoleayo, with poison, killing him in Akure.
Security expert, Zagazola Makama, reports that the incident occurred on July 16, 2025, at Imoleayo’s residence in the Olopa to Di Woli area along Ondo Road in Akure.
Quoting security sources, Makama reported that the suspects threw something on the roof of the late registrar.
Not realising it was a set-up, the victim reportedly stepped out to investigate what had happened.
The assailants, who were hiding inside a nearby bus, then pounced on him and led him back to his residence.
They reportedly forced him to ingest a liquid substance suspected to be poison before fleeing the scene.
Police said the registrar’s driver, Olowoyo Adewale, came into Imoleayo’s residence shortly afterwards, only to find him on the floor unresponsive in the compound.
Adewale then took him to the Police Hospital in Akure for treatment, but it was too late. He was confirmed dead by a medical officer.
His remains were then taken to Divine Haven Mortuary, Akure, for preservation.
The police said an investigation into the case was ongoing at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Akure.
Investigating officers have already arrested someone in connection with the murder
The suspect, apprehended from a hideout, is currently with the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Squad.
Imoleayo became the third substantive Registrar of the institution on 22 August 2024. However, he officially assumed duty on Monday, 6 January 2025.
