The police in Oyo State have arrested one Kayode Oluwaseunfunmi for allegedly sleeping with his 14-year-old daughter and putting her in the family way in Ibadan.
Reports indicated that community residents noticed the anomaly and tipped off a journalist.
The journalist reportedly contacted the police, who arrested Oluwaseunfunmi. His case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) for further investigation.
The teenager was taken to an orphanage home in Ibadan.
When interrogated, the minor said the abuse started in December 2024.
She disclosed that their mother died about 10 years ago, leaving the task of caring for them to her father, Oluwaseunfunmi.
The minor is now seven months pregnant and was not able to participate in the ongoing Junior Secondary School (JSS) 3 examinations.
She appealed to the authorities not to punish her father. The minor said that her father was the only person she and her two siblings had.
She said, despite what he did, she still loved him deeply.
“I don’t want our family to be broken apart by this situation. We’ve already lost so much. I just wish things could go back to the way they were before all of this,” she lamented.
The teenager said she hoped people could see that there was more to their story. She added that they needed support, not punishment.
She admitted that her father made a terrible mistake. However, she expressed belief that there was a way to heal without destroying the family.
The minor said she needed help to find a path forward and ensure that she and her siblings were safe and cared for.
Her father remains in the custody of the State Criminal Investigative Department (SCID) pending further legal action.
MSN learnt that the Oyo State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion had initiated plans to rehabilitate the girl and give her justice.
