Impromptu night visit to girlfriend costs man his life

A fresh university graduate identified as Armando has lost his life after he decided to visit his girlfriend after midnight in Cameroon.

Armando’s friends said five of them were together for a night out on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, when he slipped away to visit his girlfriend in Bamblili.

One of them recounted that the fresh graduate was in communication with his girlfriend all through the night, with him telling her he would like to come over to her place because it was too late to return to his own apartment.

The lady reportedly never objected, leading Armando to head to her address, hoping to spend the night there.

Armando reportedly discovered to his horror that his girlfriend had stopped responding to his messages, communicating his journey progress and arrival at her place around 3 am.

When he tried to call, he realised that her number was not going through.

He then decided to go to her door to knock, but instead of her girlfriend coming out, a hefty man believed to be her main boyfriend stepped out.

Once he realised Armando was there to sleep with his woman, he descended heavily on him, hitting him on the face and head and severely wounding him.

To make matters worse, Armando’s girlfriend reportedly failed to come to his aid and instead filmed him in his critical state and posted it on a student’s WhatsApp group.

The assaulted boyfriend was rushed to Bambili Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The case has sparked public outrage in Cameroon, with many activists calling for justice for him.

The hashtag, #JusticeForArmando, is still trending on social media in the country as netizens call for retribution for those responsible for the assault of Armando and the violation of his dignity.

The police have opened up a homicide case, but have yet to make any arrests.

University student leader, Marie Ngassa, condemned the filming of a dying man instead of taking him to the hospital. She said it was a sign of a profound moral collapse in society.

Legal experts said the recording of the man and sharing the video constituted emotional abuse under Cameroonian law.

The late graduate’s friends described him as a diligent man who had ambitions to work in public service.

Rights groups have staged vigils in Yaoundé and Douala. They are citing the death of the young man as part of the rising statistics of intimate-partner violence since 2022 in the country.

Activist group, FACE said the man’s murder was not a ‘crime of passion’, but a premeditated crime enabled by toxic entitlement.

Prosecutors said the charges could include manslaughter, non-assistance to a person in danger, and unlawful image distribution.
