Three people have been hacked to death by unknown persons suspected to be cultists in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.
The incident reportedly happened on Sunday and Monday.
The suspected cultists reportedly stormed the area and targeted three men called Agbara, Butcher and an unnamed plumber.
Residents told the Punch that Agbara was found on Lagos Street with machete cuts all over his body in the evening of Sunday.
One resident said he was home when he heard people running for safety. He said when he stepped out, he was told someone was being attacked down the street.
According to him, they waited a while before going out to the scene where they found the man popularly called Agbara, lying down in a pool of blood with cuts all over his body.
The following day, the other two men were hacked down in what is believed to be a reprisal attack.
Butcher, who earned the nickname because of his father’s profession, was apprehended by his assailants and dragged to a location on Abeokuta Street before he was stabbed to death on the spot.
His body was reportedly wrapped in a piece of cloth. He left a pregnant wife behind.
The unnamed plumber was killed around the Abeokuta bridge. He was also reportedly dragged along the street before his throat was slit.
Residents said there had been an ongoing cult rivalry culminating in violent clashes occasionally in the community.
They recalled that a footballer identified simply as Kamo was similarly killed on Thursday, last week by unknown assailants in the community.
The assailants attacked Kamo where he was observing his routine training session at a popular local football ground known as “Centre Field.”
The police said they are not yet aware of the incidents. They urged the public to contact them for any cult related activities in any part of Lagos.
