A convicted killer has expressed profound gratitude to those responsible for expediting his execution because he dreaded staying locked in jail for life.

Michael Bernard Bell, 54, a five-time convicted murderer, was executed in Florida on Tuesday, July 15.

He was the 26th person executed in the United States of America this year.

Bryan Griffin, a spokesperson for Gov. Ron DeSantis, said the convict received a lethal injection and was pronounced dead at 6:25 p.m. at the Florida State Prison.

Bell was sentenced to death for shooting two people to death outside a bar in 1993.

The death row inmate was full of life when he woke up at 6:30 in the morning on his final day on earth.

His last meal was classic breakfast foods: an omelette, bacon, home fries, and orange juice, which he ate heartily.

Bell’s journey to the lethal injection commenced sometime in 1993 when he attacked Jimmy West and Tamecka Smith in a car outside a bar.

The car was previously owned by a man who had killed Bell’s brother.

Unknown to Bell that the original owner of the car had sold it to West, he organised a revenge with two other friends and armed himself with an AK-47, with which he attacked West and his partner.

The convict also sprayed a nearby crowd with bullets before fleeing the scene.

Of the three people in the target vehicle, West instantly, Smith made it to the hospital before succumbing to her injuries, while the third person escaped unhurt.

Before that incident, he had in 1989 shot and killed a woman and her toddler son. He had also four months before the bar shooting, killed his mother’s boyfriend.

Bell has gone on record as the eighth person to be put to death in Florida
