A male and female students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, John Friday Abba and Andrel Eloho Okah, who went missing about three weeks ago, have been confirmed dead.
Their bodies were discovered in a forest area along the border between Ondo and Ekiti States.
Abba, a 200-level student of Economics and Andrel Eloho Okah, a 200-level student of History and International Studies, were found lifeless in a bush over the weekend.
TVC News quoted security sources as saying that the AAUA students might have been victims of banditry and abduction.
The institution is currently enveloped in grief and mourning following the tragic discovery of the students’ dead bodies.
The President of the AAUA Students Union Government (SUG), Akeem Ologbon, told newsmen the discovery of the students’ remains had caused widespread sorrow on campus.
He lamented that the union did all it could to ensure their rescue when the two students were reported missing.
Ologbon said the union reached out to the anti-kidnapping squad, the Scorpion Squad of the Nigerian Police Force and other relevant security formations in Ondo State.
He said the union also briefed the newly appointed Commissioner of Police.
The union leader lamented that despite their best efforts, the two students still ended up being killed by their abductors.
He called on students and other members of the university community to remain calm and avoid circulating unverified information.
Ologbon said the union would pursue justice for the deceased with unwavering commitment.
