Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has said that the overwhelming victory recorded by the All Progressives Congress in Saturday’s local government elections is an endorsement of the party by Lagosians.
It would be recalled that APC claimed all the 57 chairmanship seats in the state, leaving none for the opposition parties.
The party also claimed 375 out of the 376 councillorship positions contested at the local government election held on Saturday.
Sanwo-Olu, in a statement on Sunday, congratulated APC stakeholders for the victory recorded at the polls.
He said the outcome was “a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the good people of Lagos have in the APC’s vision, leadership, and unwavering commitment to inclusive development at the grassroots”.
The governor felicitated with the newly elected chairmen and councillors, charging them to redouble their efforts to deliver the dividends of democracy to the people.
He said the victory was not an end in itself, but a means to an end, which is selfless, responsive, and accountable service to the people.
The governor told them their responsibilities were to deliver good governance, uplift communities, and promote the welfare of every Lagosian regardless of their political affiliation.
Sawwo-Olu urged the winners to govern with humility, transparency, and compassion, and to reach across all divides.
Addressing the aspirants who lost at the primaries, Sanwo-Olu hailed their courage and commitment, charging them to remain loyal to the party.
