Babachir Lawal, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, during the tenure of President Muhammadu Buhari, has called the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway project fraudulent.

Lawal, in an interview with Laolu Akande on Channels Television’s Inside Sources earlier today (Friday, July 11),  accused the present government of not having any tangible projects that benefit Nigerians.

He asked rhetorically, ‘What projects has this government implemented so far that are visible to Nigerians and have impacted their lives?’. He provided the answer by himself, saying he had not seen any.

He said in northern Nigeria, where he was a frequent traveller, he did not see any road being constructed or rehabilitated by President Bola Tinubu’s government.

Lawal added that even in the southwest, the home of Tinubu, nothing tangible was happening.

He condemned the ongoing Lagos-Ibadan Expressway project, saying that successive governments used it as a political talking point without completing it.

He accused past governments of persistently talking about the road and voting money for it without any appreciable progress.

He declared, “Their so-called coastal road is just a scam”, adding that this was known to ‘every Nigerian’.

He questioned the relevance of the road when Nigeria was wallowing in debt.

It would be recalled that Tinubu had, earlier this year, commissioned a 30-kilometre stretch of the 700km Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, from Ahmadu Bello Way to the Eleko Village area in Lekki, Lagos.

Lawal said the development was an embarrassment to the country.

It would be recalled that Babachir Lawal worked against the Muslim-Muslim ticket of President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
