A university student, Emmanuel Gambo, from Kogi State, has been traced to his lodge in Nsukka, Enugu State and arrested by the police for murdering a young lady in a hotel room during a dispute over intimacy.

Gambo reportedly took the young lady, identified as Deborah Sam-Praise Ememem (22), to a hotel in Obukpa, Nsukka, for intimacy on June 14, 2025, around 9 pm.

All went well for some time until early in the morning when Gambo went for a second round of intimacy with Ememem.

The lady was said to have demanded additional N15,000 for the second round, a development which infuriated Gambo.

The two reportedly engaged in a brief altercation during which Gambo, a student of Material and Metallurgical Engineering at the University of Nigeria, Usukka, strangled Ememem to death.

The student wrapped the lifeless body of the lady in a towel and curtain material ripped off a window in the hotel room.

He subsequently hid the body of the lady under the bed and absconded.

The following morning, the foul smell emanating from the room led hotel staff to the dead body.

They immediately contacted the Nsukka Urban Police Division, which later transferred the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (State CID) for thorough investigation.

Gambo used false information when booking the hotel room, which made it difficult for the police to track him down expeditiously.

The investigating team finally got a lead and traced the suspect to his lodge in Nsukka on July 2, 2025. He was promptly arrested.

Enugu police said he confessed to the crime during interrogation. He reportedly also gave up the deceased’s iPhone and a bottle of Asconi Agor red wine, which the deceased had brought to the hotel.

Gambo was led by detectives to the spot where he disposed of the deceased’s Redmi tablet and earbuds.

The police said the suspect threw the items out through the hotel window in a bag after killing Ememem.

Enugu State Commissioner, Mamman Bitrus Giwa, commended the detectives for the successful arrest of the suspect.

The commissioner reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to ensuring justice, security, and the rule of law.

He called on parents to instil the fear of God in their children and discourage them from wayward behaviour.

Microsecondnews that a female student of UNN also died in a hotel room in Nsukka in July last year.

Reports indicated that she was pushed from the balcony of the hotel room.
