The Delta State Police Command has held a man identified simply as Moses for allegedly abducting and k!lling his colleague, Victor Ochei, after collecting a ransom of N300,000 from his family.
Moses lured his friend into Ute Okpu bush on Sunday, June 29, 2025 under the pretext of showing him a palm tree plantation.
It is not clear if Ochei intended to buy a palm tree plantation or he was prospecting for palm fruits for the oil mill he and Moses worked in.
Unsuspecting Ochei followed Moses to the plantation and proceeded to inspect it. It was while victim was looking at one of the palm trees that Moses sneaked behind him and struck him with a stick on the back of the head.
The suspect who is from Kogi State but resides in Umunede, buried the victim under palm fronds and left with his phone.
He called the victim’s family to ask for a ransom of 10 million naira.
The victim’s family could only raise N300k, which was sent to the suspect via an Opay account he forwarded to them.
Unknown to the family, Ochei was already dead at the time of sending the money.
His remains were laid to rest on Friday, July 4, 2025, at his residence in Umunede in Ika North East Local Government Area of the state.
Police men later caught the suspect, who allegedly confessed to the crime.
