Nigerian Pastor bags 27 month jail in US over over $4.2m COVID-19 Relief fraud

Nigerian pastor, Edward Oluwasanmi, has been sentenced to 27 months in prison for his role in a multi-million-dollar COVID-19 relief fraud by a U.S. District Court.
The fraud that put the cleric in trouble involved falsified applications under the U.S. Paycheck Protection Programme (PPP) and Economic Inj¥ry Disaster Loans (EIDL).
The pastor was also fined $15,000 and ordered to report to the U.S. Marshal Service after being convicted on three counts of fraud.
Upon completion of his sentence, Oluwasanmi will serve a three-year supervised release. He has also forfeited a commercial property he owned in South Euclid, Ohio.

His accomplice, who was a sitting monarch, Oba Joseph Oloyede, the Apetu of Ipetumodu in Osun State, will be sentenced on August 1 after he pleaded guilty.
His own property has already been impounded by the U.S. government.
