A 12-year-old boy identified as Wasiu has lost his life after being struck by a stray bullet during a suspected cult attack in the Mushin area of Lagos State.

The tragic incident occurred around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, as Wasiu entered the Olosha neighbourhood to buy food from a local vendor known as Iya Ibeji.

According to a resident, Tale Amoo, the young boy was caught in the crossfire as rival cult groups unleashed violence in the area.

“We started hearing gunshots around 8 p.m., and people began running into their homes while shop owners closed up. Wasiu was waiting to buy food when the chaos erupted. As he tried to escape, he was hit by a stray bullet,” Amoo explained.

Witnesses later found Wasiu lying unconscious and attempted to rush him to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), but were met with locked gates.

Another resident recounted, “The situation was tense. No one realised he had been shot until it was too late. They rushed him to LUTH, but the gate was locked, and cultists blocking alternative routes made it impossible to reach help.”

As of the time of reporting, the Lagos State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident.
