A Kenyan woman, Irene Wanjiru Mbugua, (48)  has been attacked and k!lled by a male patient whom she was caring for in the UK.

The lifeless body of Mbugua was found in a residence on Markby Road, Winson Green, Birmingham, about 1 a.m. on Monday, June 23, 2025.

Mbugua, a mother of four, who hailed from Mataara in Gatundu North, Kiambu, Kenya, had been in the employ of a caregiving agency in the UK for two years before the sad incident.

She was described as a devoted mother and a respected professional. Her demise shocked her family, the African caregiving community, and the entire black community in the UK.

Her brother, Gilbert Mbuga, told newsmen that his sister was clobbered to d3ath by a mentally ill patient whom she was caring for in Birmingham.

“Police said she had been clobbered on the head with a blunt object and a postmortem report showed she died of blunt force trauma,” Gilbert Mbugua said.

“Mbugua’s death was a sad affair since her two young twin sons had only arrived in the UK from Kenya a week before, and she had been looking forward to reconnecting with them in her house at Nottingham, where her oldest son lives,” he added.

According to the brother, the late caregiver missed filing the mandatory daily work report, raising concerns.

When efforts by the family and the agency to reach her failed, the West Midlands Police were involved.

A welfare check revealed her body in the house where she worked on three-week residential shifts.

A man in his thirties is now in police custody on suspicion of m8rder.

The police said they were not searching for anyone else in connection with the incident.
