President Bola Tinubu has introduced a man he claimed was his classmate and neighbour during his time at Chicago State University (CSU).
The introduction happened at the launch of the Renewed Hope Agriculture Mechanisation Programme, which saw the unveiling of 2,000 tractors and 9,000 specialised farming tools. During the event, Tinubu pointed out the man, identified only as Alex, saying:
“Alex was my very good neighbour and classmate in Chicago. We never imagined I’d become Nigeria’s President, and he, a successful businessman from Belarus. Our university should be proud of what we’re doing here today.”
Alex stood up in acknowledgement as Tinubu spoke.
The president’s academic history, particularly his association with CSU, has been the subject of intense public scrutiny and political debate since the 2023 general elections.
His latest remarks are likely to reignite conversations about his educational background.
A video capturing the moment Tinubu introduced Alex was shared online, attracting mixed reactions from Nigerians.
