A Nigerian man has accused a Bolt driver of attempting to set up his brother for a robbery during a ride booked through the ride-hailing app.
The incident came to light after X (formerly Twitter) user @Disculpe__ shared details of the alleged attack, claiming that his brother narrowly escaped being robbed and potentially harmed the previous night.
According to the post, the victim had booked a ride using the Bolt app, but midway through the journey, the driver abruptly stopped, citing engine overheating. Shortly after, three unidentified men emerged, allegedly attempting to rob and possibly assault the passenger.
“Everyone, please be careful using Bolt. This driver tried to set my brother up last night, claiming his car was overheating. Three men came out of nowhere to rob and almost kill him,” the user wrote, tagging @boltapp and @BoltNigeria, and accusing the platform of employing “thieves.”
He added later, when netizens asked questions:
“My brother ran for his life and these three guys continued to chase him, and the bolt driver had the effrontery to come back to “rescue’ him. Wo, you people should stay safe out there o. Because you’re paying for a service doesn’t mean you’re safe o.”
Some netizens supported him, but others pointed out that the vehicle might have genuinely overheated.
They noted that there was no evidence to suggest the man organised the robbery and could have just been a victim as well.
