Lightning k!lls 32 cows during heavy rainfall in Ogun

Tragedy struck in the Osara, Obantoko area of Abeokuta, within Odeda Local Government Area of Ogun State, as no fewer than 32 cows were killed by a lightning strike during a heavy downpour on Saturday, June 21, 2025.

The incident occurred around noon, and the alarm was raised by Fulani herders who notified the Baale of Osara, Chief Wasiu Afolabi, at about 2:00 p.m.

Afolabi confirmed that the cows were struck where they are usually kept before grazing.

He also stated that the matter had been formally reported to the Aregbe Police Division and Dr. Afolashade Adeyemo, Chairman of Odeda Local Government.

Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, verified the event, noting that officers were dispatched to the scene after it was reported at 13:30 hours.

The command confirmed the cows were fatally struck by lightning during the storm.

Local leaders are now working with the herders to address the aftermath and maintain peace in the community.
