Tragedy struck at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko in Anambra State, as unidentified gunmen launched a violent attack on the institution, leaving at least four people dead and two persons abducted.
The chilling incident was first revealed through a post on X (formerly Twitter), accompanied by disturbing video footage showing the aftermath and the lifeless bodies of victims.
According to the poster, the gunmen stormed the institution and whisked away two persons said to be lecturers during the assault.
Details surrounding the identities of the attackers or the motive behind the assault remain unclear.
Speculations are however, rife that the violence was cult-related, considering that the men opened fire unprovoked and made no attempt to rob.
Anambra State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, describing it as a cult-related attack.
He put the number of casualties at two, adding that the injured were being cared for in the hospital.
The attack has ignited widespread outrage on social media, with Nigerians expressing concern over the rising insecurity and violence in educational institutions.
