The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of a prohibited stun gun from Pastor Paul Adefarasin, founder of House on the Rock Church, after a viral video showed him holding the device during a roadside altercation.

The incident, which quickly gained attention online, featured Pastor Adefarasin confronting a car spotter while holding what appeared to be a gun.

The footage was captured by a popular Lagos-based content creator known for documenting high-end vehicles and street encounters.

In response to the growing public reaction, Pastor Adefarasin voluntarily presented himself at the Police Command Headquarters in Ikeja on Tuesday, where he was interrogated by detectives.

In an official statement, police confirmed the item recovered was a stun gun — a non-lethal, anti-riot device that is prohibited for civilian possession under Nigerian law. Though not a firearm, authorities clarified that it still falls under the category of illegal weapons.

“The device recovered was a stun gun. While not a firearm, it is classified as a prohibited item under current Nigerian regulations,” the statement read.

The clergyman provided a cautionary statement during questioning and was released on bail shortly afterward.

The police assured the public that investigations are ongoing and that appropriate legal procedures will be followed.

The development has sparked heated reactions on social media, with some Nigerians questioning the nature of the police’s actions and terminology used in describing the encounter.

Critics have taken issue with the phrasing of “bail” despite no formal arrest, and others have accused authorities of double standards due to Adefarasin’s public status.

Public concern remains high, but authorities have urged calm, promising a transparent inquiry into the matter.
