Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has arrived in Benue State in the wake of the horrific massacre in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area, where suspected Fulani herdsmen killed nearly 250 residents, many of whom were burned alive.
The Nigeria Police Force confirmed his visit in a brief statement shared on its official Facebook page on Monday, June 16, 2025.
The statement revealed that the IGP has ordered the deployment of additional tactical units to combat the growing insecurity in the region and restore order.
The attack, which occurred near Makurdi, the state capital, has triggered nationwide outrage and renewed calls for accountability and federal intervention.
In response, hundreds of youths took to the streets of Makurdi on Sunday in a protest aimed at drawing international attention to the relentless and deadly assaults on communities in the state.
Meanwhile, calls for justice and more decisive action from the federal government continue to grow amid widespread condemnation of the killings.
