A 52-year-old man, Mr. Morufudeen Idowu, who recently returned from Canada, has been sentenced to three months in prison by a Magistrate Court in Bolade, Oshodi, Lagos, for assaulting a government official.

The incident occurred after Idowu illegally crossed the Ojota Expressway and resisted arrest by an officer from the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI).

During the confrontation, he physically assaulted the operative.

Upon arraignment, Idowu pleaded guilty to the charges and was immediately convicted and sentenced to serve a three-month jail term.

In response to the conviction, Lagos State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, emphasised that the state government will not condone any form of attack or aggression against its officials performing lawful duties.

Wahab reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that its operatives are protected by the full weight of the law and expressed hope that the sentence will serve as a warning to others, stressing that no one’s social status exempts them from legal accountability.
