A wave of shock swept through residents of Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, after the discovery of a naked man hanging from a tree, in what is suspected to be a case of suicide.
According to Punch Metro, the lifeless body was found on Saturday, June 7, 2025, in an undeveloped parcel of land located in the New Market area of Ilishan.
A local source, who requested anonymity, said residents were alarmed by the sight and promptly contacted the police.
A disturbing photo from the scene, viewed by our correspondent, showed the man dangling from a rope tied around his neck, with no clothes on, reinforcing suspicions of suicide.
Police operatives, along with community leaders and health officials from the local government, reportedly responded to the call and recovered the body.
“Upon arrival, the law enforcement agencies discovered the body of an unidentified naked adult male hanging from a tree. The community leaders and health personnel were then invited for proper evacuation,” the source added.
A senior police officer, who spoke off the record due to a lack of clearance, confirmed that the details of the incident have been forwarded to the state command headquarters. He referred further inquiries to the command’s spokesperson.
As of press time, the Ogun State Police Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, had yet to respond to requests for comments on the incident.
