You’re late if you arrive at the airport 18 minutes before departure – NCAA warns travelers

Cotonou Cadjehoun International Airport

Michael Achimugu, spokesperson for the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), has clarified that passengers arriving at the airport shortly before departure time are already late.

In a post shared on social media platform X, Achimugu stressed that travellers should be at the airport at least two hours before their scheduled flight. He used a 6:30 a.m. flight as an example, stating that arriving at 6:12 a.m. is unacceptable and would be considered late, regardless of whether the aircraft is still on the ground.

He emphasized the importance of punctuality and respecting aviation protocols to ensure safe and smooth travel experiences.

See his post below:

“If your flight departs at 6.30 am and you stroll into the airport at 6.12 am, you are late.

For domestic flights, you should be at the airport two hours before departure. If you come later than that, ensure to, at least, check in online before you get there. If the check-n counter is closed, you don’t have a right to become unruly. Every ticket you purchase is a contract between you and the airline, and it comes with conditions of carriage, etc”
