A 37-year-old man, Joseph Manitowabi, is now in police custody after a violent altercation with three Fargo Police Department officers in downtown Fargo, North Dakota, on Saturday, June 9.

The incident, which was captured on video, has since gone viral online.

The footage shows Manitowabi breaking free from the grip of three officers—one of whom is female—and throwing punches at each of them during the struggle.

He momentarily escaped their hold and fled across the street before being caught after a short chase.

According to Fargo police, the confrontation began around 4:30 p.m. after the city’s Real Time Crime Centre flagged suspicious activity.

When officers attempted to detain Manitowabi, he reportedly resisted and became physically aggressive.

Authorities confirmed that Manitowabi was arrested and now faces several charges, including resisting arrest, assaulting a peace officer, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

All three officers involved sustained minor injuries and were treated at a nearby hospital. Fargo PD stated that the investigation is ongoing.

Although some social media users speculated that the incident might be tied to an immigration protest, police have clarified that there is no evidence supporting that theory.

The altercation appears to have stemmed from a routine drug-related arrest attempt.
