Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has revealed a powerful divine encounter where God warned him never to leave the church or face the tragic loss of his first child.
The respected cleric made the revelation during the June Holy Ghost Service themed “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State in the early hours of Saturday.
While addressing the congregation on the importance of divine guidance and spiritual stability, Pastor Adeboye expressed concern about the growing tendency among young believers to switch from one church to another.
Referring to an earlier message by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye, he urged Christians to remain where God has planted them.
Sharing a deeply personal experience from his early Christian walk, he said:
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries making waves. It was tempting to join one of them. But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.”
Despite being a university lecturer at the time, Pastor Adeboye said he chose to submit to his spiritual father in the RCCG, who had no formal education.
“My father in the Lord didn’t attend primary or secondary school. But God told me this is where I should remain.”
He noted that at the time, RCCG’s headquarters was a humble building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos — far from the globally recognised institution it has become today.
Pastor Adeboye warned Christians against making faith-based decisions based on trends or personal preferences, urging them to seek divine guidance instead.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.
He also clarified that his message wasn’t aimed at elevating RCCG above other churches.
“I’m not saying we are better than any other denomination,” he added.
