Netizens are calling for a probe after a viral video shows Pastor Paul Adefarasin, the Metropolitan Senior Pastor of House on the Rock, allegedly pulling a handgun on a man filming his vehicle in Lagos traffic.
The footage, captured by a popular auto-enthusiast, sparked widespread reactions online after showing the pastor reach for and display what appears to be a pistol while driving.
The incident reportedly occurred in heavy traffic, and the content creator, known for documenting luxury vehicles, had begun filming Pastor Adefarasin’s car when the pastor reacted by brandishing the weapon.
The brief altercation has raised questions about personal security and public safety in Lagos.
Netizens, including activist Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan, have called on the police to investigate the incident.
In a video he posted on the incident, VDM said it was illegal to own a pistol in Nigeria. He emphasised that the police would only issue a licence for rifles in Nigeria, but not a pistol.
VDM also observed that the number plate of the cleric was covered, another traffic violation.
He said if the vehicle was involved in any road infraction, it would be difficult to trace it as the number plate had been completely covered.
Some social media responses:
“Many fools on the internet. So, because he’s a pastor therefore you should attack him? … Be like some of you haven’t been attacked in Lagos traffic.”
“Threatening someone with a gun is a felony unless it was in self-defence… The police should investigate.”
Paul Adefarasin, born in 1963, is a well-known Nigerian televangelist and the founder of House on the Rock Church. The church, recognised for its annual gospel concert, The Experience, operates multiple branches across Nigeria and internationally
As of now, neither Pastor Adefarasin nor representatives from House on the Rock have issued an official statement about the video.
