The Deeper Life Bible Church has expressed deep concern over the demolition of several of its properties in Lagos State, describing the actions by government agencies as unjust, targeted, and a threat to religious freedom.
In a statement released by its legal representatives, Nojim Tairu & Co., the church accused certain state authorities of persistent interference, including harassment, threats, and restrictions that have disrupted its worship and community activities.
“Over the past months, our church has faced an unsettling pattern of interference from certain state agencies, resulting in harassment, threats of demolition, and restrictions on our places of worship and community centres,” the statement read.
The church cited three recent incidents as examples:
Chronicle Yaba Church, allegedly demolished by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA);
Olorunishola Church, reportedly brought down by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA); and
Lawanson Church, said to have been demolished by the Surulere Local Government.
“These actions not only infringe on the rights of our congregation but also raise serious concerns about religious freedom, property rights, and due process in Lagos State,” the church noted.
Deeper Life called on Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other relevant authorities to thoroughly investigate the demolitions and ensure justice is served.
The church highlighted its long-standing commitment to peace and lawful conduct.
The statement also appealed to the general public, religious organizations, legal experts, and the international faith community to support its demand for justice and the protection of religious rights.
“We remain committed to our mission of spiritual growth, humanitarian service, and social development. We will not be deterred by these challenges and are prepared to explore all legal avenues to uphold our rights and preserve our sanctuaries,” the church concluded.
