UNIZIK student jumps from three-storey building under substance influence, d1es

Unizik

A tragic incident has occurred at Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, where a male student reportedly lost his life after jumping from a three-storey off-campus lodge.

The incident happened on Thursday evening, June 5, and is believed to be linked to the intake of a psychoactive substance popularly referred to as “colos.”

Eyewitnesses say they heard a loud thud and found the student lying in a pool of blood after he leapt from the building’s balcony.

The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital but was confirmed dead on arrival.

According to a fellow student who spoke to LIB, the deceased allegedly consumed the substance after it was given to him by another resident in the lodge.

A video shared online shows angry residents confronting the man who supplied the drug, accusing him of doing nothing to stop the fatal incident.

The individual, visibly dazed and allegedly under the influence himself, failed to offer any explanation.

Authorities have since taken the roommate who gave the substance into custody. He will face further questioning once he recovers from the drug’s effects.

The university community has been left in shock, with students and staff calling for urgent measures to tackle drug abuse and ensure better mental health awareness.
