Man arrested for allegedly be@ting nine-month pregnant wife to de@th in Niger State

Mohammed Sani has been arrested for allegedly beating his pregnant wife, Hauwa Isah, to death in the Limawa area of Minna, the capital of Niger State.

According to Sahara Reporters, the tragic incident occurred on Tuesday, June 3. A local resident, Musa, claimed that neighbours attempted to intervene, but it was too late as Hauwa had already died from her injuries.

The victim’s father confirmed that Mohammed had a history of domestic violence.

“This is not the first time he has laid hands on my daughter. We warned him several times, but he didn’t stop. Now he has killed her,” he said in anguish.

Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, confirmed the incident and said the suspect had been arrested on charges of culpable homicide.

He stated, “On 3rd June, 2025 at about 10:30 p.m., a distress call was received that one Hauwa Isah, 24 years old, of Bani Hashimu Estate, Limawa ‘A’, Minna, was found lifeless on the floor with blood stains in the room.”

Police operatives from A Division in Minna responded and discovered Hauwa’s body. She was taken to the General Hospital in Minna, where she was confirmed dead.

It was also confirmed that she was approximately nine months pregnant at the time of her death.

SP Abiodun added, “The husband, Mohammed Sani, 31, of the same address, is suspected to have committed the act based on allegations of domestic abuse from neighbours.”

The case is expected to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Minna for further investigation.
