Tragedy has struck the family of Delta activist Marcus Samuel Dafe, as his brother, Aruoture Dafe, has also died from gunshot wounds just hours after Marcus was killed in a suspected retaliatory attack.

Marcus, who had recently participated in protests against rising insecurity and kidnapping in Delta State, was ambushed and shot dead near the railway station in Abraka on June 4.

His death sparked outrage among local youths and social media users who had praised his activism.

Reports indicate that Aruoture, who was with Marcus at the time of the attack, succumbed to his injuries shortly after the incident. Both men were reportedly ambushed while driving through the railway corridor—an area known for frequent criminal activity and previously flagged by residents as unsafe.

Their vehicle was discovered riddled with bullets. Marcus was pronounced dead at the scene, while Aruoture, who had initially survived, was later confirmed dead from his injuries.

The fatal attack occurred hours after four suspected kidnappers, believed to be of Fulani origin, were reportedly gunned down by security forces in the same locality—an operation that had gained widespread attention earlier in the day.

The double tragedy has left the Abraka community in mourning and fear, as residents worry the killings may be part of a larger cycle of retaliatory violence.

Many are now calling for urgent government intervention to restore safety and order in the area.
