Tragedy struck during a football match in Argentina as 35-year-old player Enzo Pittau collapsed on the pitch and later died from cardiac arrest, just hours after posting a heartfelt message to fans on social media.
The incident occurred during a match in Machagai, as Pittau played for Don Orione against Club Union in the second phase of the Chaco federation tournament.
He collapsed 41 minutes into the game, causing immediate panic and distress among players and spectators.
Despite efforts to rush him to a local hospital in a private vehicle, Pittau was pronounced dead upon arrival, as reported by Hechos y Derecho.
Don Orione Football Club expressed their sorrow in a public statement:
“With deep pain, we communicate the death of Enzo Pittau. We are shocked and affected by this loss. We appreciate your solidarity and understanding in this difficult time for our club and Enzo Pittau’s family.”
Pittau had reportedly returned to Argentina after playing professionally in Europe, and his sudden passing has deeply shaken the local football community.
Witnesses at the scene described the emotional chaos following his collapse. One fan told Diario Chaco via Contexto Tucumán:
“I was in the middle of the match when Pittau fell to the ground. It looked like he fainted. I can still see it—it’s very painful. Everything turned into chaos. People were running, screaming, crying, and calling for help. From the stands, we didn’t really know what had happened, but it was awful.”
Another added, “I can’t get the image of Pittau falling alone out of my head. We’re not used to this in football. It hurts a lot. Everyone was in shock—players and spectators alike. The match was paused and eventually suspended.”
Just hours before his death, Pittau had shared a poignant message on social media that now carries heartbreaking weight:
“The faith and God in between. Today we play with soul and life.”
