Police in Bayelsa State have begun a manhunt for a suspected internet fraudster, commonly known as “Yahoo boy,” after a young woman was found dead in a hotel room in the Igbogene area of Yenagoa, the state capital.

The tragic incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, according to a source who spoke to Punch Metro on condition of anonymity.

The deceased allegedly checked into the hotel with the suspect, who fled the premises shortly afterwards, leaving the woman behind.

The hotel’s manager later discovered the woman’s lifeless body and immediately alerted the Igbogene Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The lifeless body of a young girl was found in a hotel at Igbogene on Saturday, causing panic in the area,” the source said. “She had lodged with a suspected Yahoo boy who left right after they checked in.”

Confirming the development, the Bayelsa State Police Public Relations Officer, Musa Muhammad, said the command has launched an investigation and is working to identify and apprehend the suspect.

“We received the report on Saturday. No arrest has been made so far, but we’re making serious efforts to track down the suspect,” Muhammad said.

He added that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
