
A sombre moment turned even more tragic in Marenga, Bunyala West Ward, Budalang’i Constituency, Kenya, when a 28-year-old man named Emmanuel Makokha collapsed and died during a burial ceremony.
Makokha, who was serving as a drummer (locally referred to as mpiga ngoma), was actively involved in the ceremony when he suddenly slumped and fell into the grave where they were planning to bury a church member who had passed away.
The widely circulated video of the incident shows the drummer hitting his head on the coffin as he fell backwards, before landing inside the grave.
Mourners and eyewitnesses immediately jumped inside the grave to pull him out.
Sadly, Makokha succumbed to his injuries shortly after the fall.
The area chief confirmed the incident, noting that the atmosphere became chaotic in the aftermath of the fall.
What was already a day of mourning became a double tragedy, deeply affecting all those present.
Makokha’s unexpected passing has left his family, church, and the broader community in shock.
He is being remembered as a vibrant and dedicated young man who frequently participated in local events.
