A 79-year-old Nigerian woman has shared a distressing account of how she was lured to the United States with promises of a better life but ended up working as a nanny for seven months without pay.
The emotional revelation was posted on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) by user @dammiedammie35.
In a heartrending video, the woman who spoke Yoruba said the man brought her to the Unites States promising to pay her $850 per month.
She claimed the man later promised to upgrade her pay to $1,100 if she worked flawlessly.
She was reportedly tasked with caring for three children while the man she worked for left home daily at 5 a.m. and returned at 10 p.m.
Despite her dedication and round-the-clock efforts, she claims she never received any compensation.
In her own words, she said, “He was using me and making me suffer. I took care of his three children while he left at 5 a.m. and returned at 10 p.m. He owes me seven months’ salary at $850 per month. He told me that if there were no complaints about me starting from June, he would increase my pay to $1,100. But today, he sent me away without giving me anything.”
The post quickly sparked outrage online, with users flooding the comments in support of the elderly woman.
Reactions:

@MrSpace0011: “Omo heartbroken.”
@franklinodika11: “She should be grateful that she isn’t in this country. You are in a country where you enjoy basic freedoms and amenities and you get complaining.”
